The Healthiest, Non-stick Cookware and a Giveaway

I’m regularly asked what cookware I recommend and my answer is always the same – stainless steel and cast-iron because it’s safe, durable and sustainable. But recently I’ve been wishing for a non-stick pan, that isn’t as heavy as my old cast iron one so my young kids can be more hands on with cooking and handle it easily. You see my daughter has really taken an interest in cooking breakfast; eggs fried in ghee is her favourite or an omelette or veggie pancakes and she’d rather have no assistance at all during the process (she’s ferociously independent).

Buying a non-stick pan is out of the question for me. Perfluorinated chemicals (PFOA) used in non-stick cookware (and food packaging) have been linked to attention deficit hyperactivity disorders in children (Gump et al, 2011 and Stein and Savits, 2011). Recent studies indicate they may act as hormone disrupters also. So, it was like an answer to my wishes when I stumbled upon a wonderful and innovative Australian company called Solidteknics.

A safe, yet lightweight pan that my kids can handle
As well as a stunning cast iron range, Solidteknics also produce the most beautiful formed iron (steel pans). Both are 100% made in Australia from Australian materials, both are durable and pre-seasoned bare iron for natural, non-toxic nonstick cooking (their stated warranty is multi-century).

AUS-ION™ is the world’s only seamless one-piece steel chef pans. Chefs and cooking experts agree that Solidteknics has radically improved on the centuries-old French steel pans preferred by top chefs all around the world.

Why this is the only non-stick cooking range I will ever buy or recommend:

  1. For my families health. I’ve covered safety above, I simply won’t risk exposing my food and family to the chemicals found in conventional non-stick cookware.
  2. Sustainability. It’s time to break the wasteful and damaging cycle of imported disposable synthetic-coated cookware, sadly still thrown in the landfill by so many households after only a few years of cooking, or less (immediately if destroyed by overheating, or scratched/flaking). The  Solidteknics seasoned steel remains nonstick for the life of the pan, with a little care. With their multi-century warranty, you will never need to replace your AUS-ION™ pan, and nor will many future generations who cook with it. That’s true sustainability.
  3. For use on/in any heat source. These pans are suitable on/in any heat source, from induction to electric, gas, bbq, and fire pits, any oven (except microwave!) while remaining warp-free and multi-century tough, even in restaurants.
  4. Initiate change. Make an informed choice to ‘vote with your wallet’ for a healthier and more sustainable cookware future. Importers and manufacturers will ‘follow the money’ and drop the synthetics, but only if consumers do so first. Meanwhile, they will keep shipping whatever we’re buying…..so change must be led by the ‘voting’ public. We’re all responsible. Having said that, these pans are NOT expensive at all.

Georgia, thanks for this post. I didn’t get around to entering the competition, but am really glad to have this information. Have been saving up for a good new frypan, and am now aiming to buy one of these – they look fantastic!

Thanks for this info! Where can we buy them? I couldn’t see a link to purchase.

Kind words…

“I downloaded your ebooks after hearing you speak at the Health and Wellness Summit in Melbourne. Love them, life changing… Don’t stop! Thank you for getting the whole food message out there, I certainly heard it.” Melanie

“I love your ebooks, I have all three of them now and they are now my only go to receipe books. They are simple, wholesome and taste great. THANK YOU!!! I have spent alot of money on courses about healthy eating and recipe books but your books have covered it all and my little man enjoys the snacks etc. Wish I would have found you earlier “. Brooke

“I just want to say a huge thank you for your amazing website and information. I’ve never liked cooking and never got excited by my ‘healthy’ cooking. My husband is even worse and if he could, he would just eat beacon and eggs every morning and steak every night. He hardly ate any veggies. Since I found your website I have gone through almost every recipe. My husband is loving every meal as well – even meat free Monday, and he’s taking left-overs to work for lunch (honestly, who thought that could be so hard?!)” Rose

“You have truly helped me and my family to lead a healthier lifestyle. I’ve been referring to your page every few days, very inspiring, so thank you!” Emily

“Thank you very much for your awesome website & facebook page posts, you have motivated & inspired me heaps!” Fiona

“I just wanted to let you know that you have absolutely inspired me to a better way of eating, I’ve been making my shopping lists based on recipes you’ve shared and am educating my kids with the reasons behind different foods and why they are good etc! This page has become my little bible hehe! Thank you so much for all the detail you give. It’s absolutely wonderful!” Sky
