This Sweet Labne recipe (labneh) is a delicious and refreshing Middle Eastern-inspired dish that’s perfect for dessert or a light snack. The combination of creamy labne, fragrant rose water, and the crunch of pistachios creates a beautiful mix of flavours and textures. It’s a super simple dish that feels indulgent without being overly sweet. It is also a lovely way to finish off a meal with a little digestive boost.
I see this as somewhere between a dessert and a cheese board…and something I often serve at a dinner party. Don’t underestimate the simple things in life. This delicious dessert is a real crowd pleaser.
Labne is basically strained yogurt (or greek yogurt). You can buy labne from some supermarkets or specialty stores or you can make it by simply straining yogurt through a cheesecloth (or muslin cloth). Health benefits
This dish offers a lovely balance of probiotics for gut health and protein from the labne, healthy fats from the pistachios, and natural sweetness from the syrup and fruit. It’s a light and nourishing treat that can easily fit into various dietary preferences.
Ingredients
You’ll need labne, your choice of syrup (rice malt, honey, or maple), rose water, ground cardamom (optional), pistachio nuts, and fresh fruit like figs, apples, or strawberries for garnish. For added texture, serve with bread or biscotti.
How to make this sweet labne recipe
In a small bowl, combine your syrup, rose water, and cardamom. Drizzle this over the labne, then garnish with fresh fruit slices and a sprinkle of pistachios. Serve as is or pair it with bread or biscotti for an extra crunch.
Serving suggestions and how to store
Serve this sweet labne chilled, either on its own or alongside some sourdough or gluten-free bread. It also pairs wonderfully with biscotti. Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Vary this sweet labne recipe to suit your needs
For a low-fructose option, use rice malt syrup and low-fructose fruits like berries. If you need a gluten-free option, skip the bread or serve it with gluten-free shortbread. For a nut-free version, simply omit the pistachios or replace them with toasted pepitas. You can also keep it super simple by drizzling your favorite syrup over the labne—cinnamon or vanilla are great flavour boosters!
